So called as we ‘splat-a-lot’ of paint around.
We are part of the Ashcott Pantomime Society, which has been running for 30 years.
We are a small group of people who meet to paint the scenery and make the props for the Ashcott Pantomime.
We meet on a Friday evening to set everything up, then on Saturday we paint and make, then on Sunday morning we put finishing touches to the painting, try to finish off any props we are making and pack it all away before the cast come in for a rehearsal at 1.30pm.
The setting up on Friday evening is us covering the hall floor with plastic sheets and getting all our equipment out ready for Saturday. We will also prime any new backdrops or side flat material we are going to need. It may also be the time we draw the outline of the scene to be painted.
Saturday is our main painting and making day. We start about 9am, break for lunch around 1pm and hopefully finish about 5pm, leaving everything out to dry.
Sunday we meet about 10am and it’s the time we put some detail on and continue with the props. But everything needs to be dry so it can be put away by 1pm.
This all has to happen in just 3 weekends over September, October and November,
This is so it’s ready for the pantomime performances in the first week of December.
We work very closely with the director of each pantomime to ensure we are producing the scenery they would like.
The pantomime would not be the same without our contribution.

The first job is to cover the hall with plastic sheeting so we don’t get the paint on the floor.
Then the fun starts – painting large backdrops and side panels.
Also large and small props are constructed and painted
